Description
This Irish Song and Game is a perfect addition to St. Patrick’s Day activities (or any time of year) in an early childhood classroom. Music and non-music teachers can adapt this resource to their needs because I have created several levels of engagement. You can use this resource to teach rhythm (quarter and eighth notes), solfeggio syllables and solfeggio hand symbols, sheet music, as well as solo/socially distanced game play or group play for “One, Two, Three, O’Leary.”
Points of Interest:
-
Teaching children about the history of Irish music and rhymes
-
Teaching musical concepts (rhythm and solfege) using familiar tunes
-
Fine motor development to grasp musical instruments or balls
-
Gross motor development to throw, catch, and roll balls (or scarves)
How to use this resource:
You can use this as a slideshow presentation or print pages for handouts. You can laminate or print on heavy card stock to keep in your music area. When teaching rhythms and solfege, you can do so as a group or with individual students to assess their ability to follow directions, hear and match rhythm and pitch (ear training), as well as observe fine and gross motor coordination (do they complete the movements easily and in rhythm.)
