Description
It can be difficult to find an accurate list of short vowel CVC words to ensure I was providing my students with enough variation as they are learning to spell with the moveable alphabet. These lists can be used by teachers needing a quick reference guide as well as for students to self-check their work. I also included lesser-referenced words such as “nab” or “lug” because I believe children at this age have an intense interest in language and vocabulary and introducing lesser known, yet simple words can help expand their vocabulary and pique curiosity. Learning goals: dictation/encoding, spelling and reading CVC words, teach print letter formation using an evidence-based font*, improve focus, build vocabulary

Pre-requisite: Children can begin spelling CVC words once they have familiarity with 5-7 sounds, they do not need to have mastered all the sounds in the entire alphabet to start spelling.

Teachers can use the lists as a quick reference for giving spelling words

Multiple copies can be made per child as they progress and check off words and medial short vowel sounds they have mastered

Cut out the individual words for a variety of classroom uses such as checking work, pairing with objects or images, copy work
