Do I need sandpaper letters? 

I have found that these lowercase cursive tracing letters are just as effective as the classic Montessori sandpaper letters for teaching children letter formation. While I believe sandpaper letters are better in a classroom setting, at home there is no reason to worry if you cannot afford your own set.

As scientists have studied how children learn to read and write, the data backs the use of this ingenious tool to provide tactile feedback as a child looks at the letter symbol, says the sound, as well as traces its path.
